At the beginning of June, a number of car companies released the production and sales situation in May, and the sales volume showed an upward trend month-on-month. Among them, the monthly sales of Ideal, Nezha, Xiaopeng, Leapao, and Xiaokang all exceeded 10,000. Energy vehicle deliveries have returned to March levels. BYD released the production and sales report for May 2022. The sales volume of new energy vehicles in May was 114,943 units; the cumulative sales volume this year was 507,314 units, a year-on-year increase of 422.97%.

It is worth noting that the sales of new energy vehicles in May increased by 244% year-on-year, the first year-on-year increase, and the sales of electric vehicles surpassed fuel vehicles for the first time . Although the recovery speed of each car company is different, the new energy car market in the first two months of Waterloo must have learned enough lessons for the new forces, and will have better anti-risk capabilities in the future.


At the same time, in May, most car companies showed their resilience and achieved a year-on-year increase. For example, Leapmotor has increased by more than 200% year-on-year for 14 consecutive months, Nezha Motor has increased by 144% year-on-year, and Xiaopeng Motors has increased by 78% year-on-year. Li Auto grew by 165.9% year-on-year.

|The consumer side has recovered significantly, and supply chain problems still exist

Data show that in 2021, my country's annual sales of new energy vehicles will be 3.521 million, a year-on-year increase of 1.6 times, ranking first in the world for seven consecutive years, of which private consumption accounts for nearly 80%. Even in March, when automobile production and sales declined due to the epidemic, retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles still increased by 137.6% year-on-year and 63.1% month-on-month, both better than the trend in previous March. At the end of the first quarter of this year, a total of 10.334 million new energy vehicles were promoted in my country, and the global market share increased to a new high of 65%.


High-quality new energy vehicle brands can effectively absorb the short-term negative impact of price increases on sales. The price increase will be a reshuffle for the new energy vehicle market, and the market share will be further concentrated to high-quality brands.


At the same time, the price increase of new energy vehicles often affects consumers’ short-term decision-making. In the medium and long term, consumers’ psychological price expectations will also change with the overall environment of market prices, and the development momentum of new energy vehicles remains strong. The consumer side has recovered significantly, and supply chain problems still exist.

Now the pressure on the auto market is mainly due to the rising prices of new energy vehicles and the continuous rise in oil prices. Users are not buying fuel vehicles, nor are they buying electric vehicles. They are in a dilemma and can only be a party. From the beginning of the year to May, due to the soaring prices of raw materials for power batteries, new energy vehicles have experienced three waves of price hikes , ranging from a few thousand yuan to two or three thousand yuan. .


In the next few years, with the reduction of manufacturing costs, the electric vehicle industry will usher in a "price war". However, judging from the current situation, the possibility of price reduction in the past two years is unlikely, at least until the chips, raw materials and supply chain are stabilized, it is possible to talk about price reduction.

|Under the catalysis of the market and policies, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles continues to increase

Since 2022, the new energy vehicle market has been mixed. Back in April, despite the impact of the spread of the epidemic in various places, the automobile supply chain and the industry's start-up situation encountered severe challenges, and the production and sales of various car companies fell sharply. However, according to the data of the China Automobile Association, the sales of new energy vehicles still maintained a relatively high growth.


In particular, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles reached 25.3%. Now, that means for every 4 cars sold, one is an electric car.


Since May, with the relaxation of car purchase restrictions, the periodic halving of the 60 billion yuan purchase tax on some passenger cars, the launch of a new round of new energy vehicles to the countryside, and the issuance of auto consumption coupons in various places, a series of "combination punches" have been launched. The auto market has clearly improved on the consumer side.


On the supply side, most domestic car companies are gradually resuming work and production, and there are even companies like Leap Motor that have been less affected by the epidemic and have achieved "curve overtaking".


Most importantly, compared with foreign car companies, Chinese new energy brands have shown better ability to withstand pressure. As brands begin to deliver, the backlog of orders in the past has brought sales growth, but supply-side problems still affect the development of the industry.


Of course, in the long run, the development of the new energy vehicle market is more certain.


On April 25, the General Office of the State Council issued the "Opinions on Further Unleashing Consumption Potential and Promoting Continued Recovery of Consumption", proposing to support the accelerated development of new energy vehicles.

Industry insiders predict that sales of new energy passenger vehicles are expected to exceed 5.3 million in 2022. For the healthy and stable development of the industry and to solve supply chain problems, car companies need to strengthen communication and cooperation with suppliers and make more adequate preparations.


In general, the sales of new energy vehicles in China rebounded significantly in May. With various cities and national meetings encouraging automobile consumption, new energy vehicles have become a general trend, and the sales data in June is expected to be even more amazing.


But whether it is high or low, the general trend of new energy vehicles will not change, and the penetration rate will only get higher and higher. At present, it is still a decision with sufficient certainty to continue to embrace the new energy vehicle industry chain.
